James Suckling Review
Rated 90
Earthy, with plenty of ripe dark berries and plums, as well as blueberries and perfumed florals (this has a sliver of white grapes, too). The palate has density and depth and focuses inwards with a dark-plum and sanguine edge to the tannins, abundant ripe berries and a bold finish. Almost Italianate tannins here. Quite long. Drink or hold.
Wine Tasting Notes
The Footbolt Shiraz from d'Arenberg McLaren Vale is an exceptional red wine that offers excellent value. It showcases the characteristics of a warm vintage, displaying flavors of plum, black fruits, and licorice. Despite its affordable price, this wine exhibits a remarkable complexity, featuring a solid acidity and appealing earthy undertones. The oak integration is well-executed, providing a medium level of tannins. This results in a wine that is enjoyable to drink presently, yet also has the potential to age gracefully for the next 5-10 years.
