Jeb Dunnuck Review
Rated 95
Blackberries, bay leaf, smoked game, bacon fat, and violet notes all emerge from the 2021 Syrah, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated Syrah from this team that has beautiful balance, fine tannins, and a great finish. The purity here is brilliant, and while the focus of this estate is clearly their Cabernet Sauvignon, they make a fabulous Syrah that's well worth seeking out. Drink bottles over the coming decade. Drink 2023-2033.
Wine Tasting Notes
Plumpjack Napa Syrah is a bold wine that does not hold back. Its aroma is a delightful mix of raspberry, cherry, blueberry, boysenberry, and plum. Alongside the fruit notes, you will find the traditional cool-climate Syrah scents of white pepper, dried herb, and smoked meats. Adding depth to these flavors is a distinct green peppercorn essence, a result of the whole-cluster fermentation of the Syrah. The taste is rich with similar notes, offering a smooth texture with substantial body and intensity, sturdy tannins, and a lingering finish. In short, this wine is truly exquisite.
