Description
The Crusher California Petite Sirah is a deep, inky color with bold aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, and fig jam. The inviting aromas lead to a medium palate with a core of juicy fruit flavors, toasted hazelnut and baking spice notes. The wine spends 10 months in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak, giving the final blend a soft texture with fine, well-integrated tannins. With beautifully extracted color, impressive flavor and a lushness that lingers on the finish, this is one of the favorite wines to drink alongside roasted leg of lamb or beef tenderloin.

True Petite Sirah
My favorite wine is Petite Sirah. For decades it was difficult to find on the shelves of a typical bedroom community liquor merchant. I gave up and fell back on Cabernet or whatever dry full bodied red was available. Last November I discovered The Crusher Petite Sirah on a bottom shelf. It was a reasonable price — unusual for this vintage — and I thought I’d give it a try. It was a mouth burst of berry and subtle buttery, nutty flavors, dry but not too dry and very close to the lovely Petite Sirahs I had enjoyed in the 1990s. This winery wins awards. If you have never heard of it, your loss. I went back and bought all the remaining bottles off the shelf and ordered a case as well. I just ordered another case. Usually I’m just a red wine floater and will buy whatever. This is the great exception. Just know that Petite Sirah grapes are somewhat uncommon and this vintage may not be around that long.
